Home Based Business Start Ups
You’re looking for a home based business. You have a family, perhaps a job already, community volunteer commitments, and who knows what else on the go…
You’ve decided it’s time to get out of the rat race, but you know it’s going to take a while to build up a home based business to the successful end of quitting that day job and being your own boss - with a paycheck that you write!
You know that thousands of people are working from home, in their own business, and using the internet to find and secure clients, sales or prospects. Some, again thousands, are working online solely with minimal contact outside of email with their customers.
It’s not a pie-in-the-sky dream. It’s attainable and you know it!
So you search around on google and yahoo, sign up for a bunch of free courses and home business newsletters looking for the golden egg. And you’re vulnerable at this point. Vulnerable to believe any claims, any new way of thinking, any dream you’re pre-disposed to buy into, about a business opportunity.
You may need to invest a lot of money to get started. You may need to invest a lot of time. That’s okay, as long as it pans out in the end, you tell yourself.
But how can you be sure it will pan out in the end?
How do you recognize the scams from the shams?
First off, there are few hard and fast rules about choosing a legitimate home based business opportunity. I might say if it reads ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’ run for the hills - yet I’ve seen these opportunities and sometimes they really do work out.
I might say if it comes with a hefty monthly fee just to be part of an elite group of entrepreneurs then close your browser quick. But again, I’ve been part of a monthly service that cost a fair chunk of change and learned a lot of valuable information, gained a few strong friendships with successful entrepreneurs, and came out on top as a result.
The best, the cheapest, the most lucrative way to start a home based business online is to do it yourself. Take your idea, get it online in the form of a website (this is NOT hard to do anymore), and every cent you earn from that website, pour it back into your business in the form of learning materials and services that help you grow your business.
$8 to register a dot.com, $5 month for hosting, 1 minute to install blogging software (an easy to use website creator), 2 hours to learn the basics of using blogging software, and however much time you need to write your idea, your business proposal, your ebook, your service agreement, your whatever - that is going to bring you an income online.
It’s the basic rule of business. I don’t care whether it’s online or offline. Start small, re-invest in the company, and keep learning and growing as you go.
eBay started in a basement. Jeff Paul started in a one room apartment. 12 year old kids that are now millionaires started in their bedrooms when they were supposed to be doing homework. Joe Vitale was homeless. I was in a spare bedroom with an old computer on a slow, slow connection on a chicken farm.
The hardest part of an online home based business is coming up with a viable idea. And ideas, once you’re ready to ‘accept’ them, come easily.

I’m not sure why I haven’t discovered this site until now. It is a resource I could have used a few years ago.
This second effort to get my home-based e-commerce company into operation and profitable has me stumped. I cannot decide on an online service-oriented business. Probably, I’m being indecisive. But more than that I need much different “products” than are found in the standard home biz and/or affilliate. No MLMs.
I am open to any ideas you may have and will gladly use as much of your knowledge and biz skills as you are willing to share.
Thanks for your time. Of course, I have asked for too much, but then I have high expectations for my own business.

This is an awesome artical. Specifically, I like the fact that you outline how easy it is to “get started” online. I’ve started an online business. One of my plans isn’t new; I want to show people how to start a lucrative online businesses without making the mistakes I made. I learn new things everday in my quest for online success and I share these with my list, website visiters and blogsters. Just a few hours ago I was sitting in the Taco Bell drive through, looking at a Billboard across the street and thought I want a website that gives people value will offering companies a chance to take advantage of the millions of visiters to my site. I realize the aformentioned isn’t new but believe it or not there are a large number of people that don’t realize this is one of the many avenues to earn money online. Starting a business online is about changing the way you think about attracting customers.
